Hi middle school families!
We are so excited to announce our fall middle school musical pending School Board Approval: School House Rock, Jr!
Schoolhouse Rock Live! JR. is based on the Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning educational cartoon series and pop culture phenomenon is now the basis for one of the most fun and easily mounted musicals ever to hit the stage, Schoolhouse Rock Live! JR. This revue-like structure follows Tom, a young school teacher, who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music. Memorable songs such as “Just a Bill,” “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” and “Conjunction Junction” bring his lesson plans vividly to life.
Key Dates:
- Tuesday, April 29 in NASH music rooms – Auditions. Sign up for your time slot between 4:30 – 8:30 now!
- Wednesday, May 7 at 4:30-7 pm, NASH music rooms – Callbacks for invited students
- Rehearsals are on Mondays 5:30-8pm, Thursdays 5:30-8 pm, & Sundays 1-4pm. Our first rehearsal is scheduled for Thursday, September 4.
Conflicts must be pre-approved, and no more than five missed rehearsals will be accepted. Missing all or part of the same weekly rehearsal repeatedly will not be allowed. Absences that occur during blocking or the learning of specific sections of the show may result in the removal from that section. We unfortunately do not have the time in our schedule to re-teach. Theatre is a team sport, and in fairness to the whole team, we need everyone’s full commitment! - Starting Sunday, October 26 – Tech week begins. Keep evenings and weekend days available. We will be working around the NASH musical schedule. Conflicts are not allowed during tech except for emergencies.

Saturday, November 15 at 7:00 pm

Your audition will be made up of two parts:
- Dancing: Our fabulous choreographer, Victoria, will teach you a short dance combo from the show, and then you will perform it with a small group!
- Singing & Acting: You’ll choose one of the pre-selected audition cuts from the show to sing by yourself. This is for us to hear your singing voice and get to know your vocal range, as well as learning how YOU tell a story through song! Feel free to choose the song you feel best singing, regardless of character or gender – you’ll be considered for all roles, including the ensemble. Please have the words memorized. The practice tracks contain the vocals to learn the notes, but we want to hear YOUR voice, so don’t try to make your version sound exactly like the singer on the track. We will play the BACKTRACKS without guide vocals during the auditions.
You may wear whatever you feel your best in! For the dance portion, please wear comfortable clothing with tennis shoes/dance shoes. Resumes and headshots are not necessary, but we will welcome anything that you would like to bring. Have fun and BE YOU 🙂 Don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any accessibility needs to succeed in your audition.
If you dance first, you’ll be done after your two-minute singing time slot. If you sing first, you’ll be done after your half hour dance call.
Because of space constraints, it is possible that not all students who audition will make the cast. We will let you know as soon as possible who has been cast and who we’d like to see for lead role callbacks.
We can’t WAIT to get this started!
